Thank you for visiting Skidgel Studios. My name is Cindy Skidgel and I'm an artist who enjoys working in many mediums, choosing to focus on the subject matters of nature and animals rather than one medium.
I work in both flat and dimensional needle felted fiber art. I have been focusing on developing my unique bas relief style to include environments for my subjects to live in.
I've rediscovered my original love of drawing and painting and am currently working in watercolor and acrylic.

I spent the first 12 years of my life traveling around the United States, wherever the Navy would send my family. I am glad I have experienced living in other parts of the country, but my current home state of Maine fuels a lot of inspiration and creativity. You will see many influences from the local weather, geography, flora and fauna in my work.
From an early age, artwork has flowed easily and prolifically from my pencil or brush. I began with drawings and paintings from childhood through high school, which eventually led to trying new crafts such as jewelry, making lampworked glass beads, stained glass, mosaics, and most recently, felting with wool.
I make Yarmouth, Maine my home with my husband Dave, 2 rescue dogs Holly and Maddox and cat Casper. Animals have always held a special place in my heart, and I would like to encourage anyone wishing to add a new furry member to their family to visit their local animal shelter first.
Some of my interests in addition to creating artwork include kayaking, hiking, visiting public lands, National Parks, and beach combing for sea glass and other interesting natural treasures.

Inspiration
My inspiration comes from many sources, but a strong one in my life is nature.The textures, forms, and colors from nature influence my work. I enjoy traveling to National Parks, and some of my favorites are in Utah and Wyoming. I hope to visit more in new locales to experience more of what nature has to offer.
Animals are my constant inspiration and I especially enjoy learning about wild animals around the world as I incorporate them in my work. I inevitably end up watching documentaries of animals I'm working on through YouTube and I typically learn a lot of interesting things about the animal I'm creating.
